What is COSHH, and why is it so vital?

COSHH, or the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health, is a crucial set of regulations designed to protect the health and safety of workers when dealing with hazardous substances in the workplace. These regulations require employers to assess and control risks associated with the use of such substances, ranging from chemicals and solvents to dusts and fumes.

By providing a framework for the management of hazardous materials, COSHH helps prevent workplace accidents, occupational illnesses, and long-term health issues. It mandates the implementation of safety measures such as proper labelling, storage, and disposal procedures, as well as the provision of adequate training and personal protective equipment (PPE) to workers.
